Melanie is sharp and sarcastic. Her behavior is comparable to that of a typical teenager. Melanie has always been found with the "punk" or "goth" crowd, as seen in her childhood photos and her friends' appearances.She is the smartest and sanest member of the group.Unlike Kayla, Melanie is very tomboyish, not having much of any actual interest in anything girly and is often seen in lolita dresses rather than girly dresses, Melanie continues to consider herself to be a goth with her taste in dark clothing and interest in the subliminal and netherworldly, but with her outspoken attitude over her vegetarian lifestyle combined with the rights of animals and the future of the environment, one would probably see her as more Greenpeace than goth.

Melanie is short in stature, with pale skin, red lipstick, long black hair with red cross shaped hair clips, black eyes, black ribbon choker and lavender eye shadow. In terms of attire, she is most notably found wearing a black leather jacket, dark purple leggings with black stripes, underneath a pair of black shorts with red highlights, a white shirt, black boots with blue on them, and black lace glovelets.
At school, she wears a black fitted-bodice dress with a pointed white collar and black loosely-bowed tie; high-cut bishop sleeves ending in a white cuff; and a skirt that is typically calf-length and somewhat puffy (crinolines used to maintain a bell shape).

- Unlike their goth daughter, Melanie's parents are a pair of super-optimistic and cheery people.
- Melanie shares some similarities with Mandy from The Grim Adventures: Billy & Mandy. As both are described scary by other people.
